WISWISYS 2.0

WiSwiSys 2.0 was the home automation system which I made during my +2 vacation. It was made with a focus to cover up the disadvantages of the original WiSwiSys.

-The latest version of this project is WiSwiSys 2.5-

Here are few photos of WiSwiSys 2.0:

The white box is the extension box on which appliances are connected. Each socket has been numbered so as to make it easy to find the socket on the app. The blue box is where all the magic happens! It contains the NodeMCU module and the relay board.

The black wire should be connected to an AC outlet so as to power the sockets.
The white USB cable is used to power the NodeMCU module. It can be connected to any USB port such as powerbanks, Mobile phone chargers etc.

Following are the features of WiSwiSys2.0 :

1) WSS2.0 is now depended on a free but permanent server (Blynk).

2) The responses from and to the server is extremely fast. Which means switching the appliances ON/OFF happens extremely fast* from the app.

*The speed depends on the type of internet connection to which your mobile phone is connected (Considering the fact that WSS is connected to your home Wi-Fi which has minimum speed of 2Mbps). Here are the time taken for server response from different types of internet conenctions:

Wi-Fi (with minimum speed 2Mbps) - <1s
4G - <1s
3G - <1s
2G - 2-3s

(The app takes a few seconds to get connected to the server on 2G connection).

3) The app shows the current status of your appliances (whether switched ON/OFF).

4) WSS has a blue L.E.D which glows when it has established a connection with the server.

5) The blue L.E.D can be switched off if you wish through the app.

6) WSS can be programmed (using Arduino IDE) to connect to a Wi-Fi of your choice.

7) WSS2.0 has a more compact design than WSS1.0.

8) WSS2.0 (the mother board) is power efficient. It can run on a 6000mAh power bank for more than 1 day.

9) Internet connections at home may not be stable. So just in case if WSS2.0 goes offline due to some reason (no power or lack of internet connection) , you'll receive a notification in your mobile with a custom made notification tone.

Here is the custom made notification tone:

Here is a screen recording to show how the notification is received on your phone:

10) If you are in the app, then you'll get an in-app notification when WSS gets connected to the internet.

11) By tapping on second last icon on the top right, you'll be able to since when WSS was online (if it's currently online)/offline (if it's currently offline).

12) WiSwiSys2.0 has 2 modes- i)Extension mode and ii)WiSwiSys mode.

Extension mode- While in extension mode, WiSwiSys2.0 can be used as an ordinary extension. Which means that you can use WiSwiSys without having it connected to the internet or powered on. In short, you wont be able to control your appliances through your phone.

WiSwiSys mode- While in this mode, WiSwiSys should be powered on and should be connected to the internet. This mode enables you to control your home appliances through your phone. In short, this is the mode which brings out the actual use of WiSwiSys2.0.

The modes can be changed by simply pressing the switch on the extension board in the direction of the mode you need.

Pressing the switch at the top enables Extension mode.
Pressing the switch at the bottom enables WiSwiSys mode.
You can change the modes of each sockets as each socket has a switch.
To know why I made this feature, then click here.

13) The switch on the extension board not only acts as a switch to switch between modes, it also serves the purpose of a real switch (to turn ON/OFF the appliances connected to their respective sockets). Therefore, it brings some safety to WiSwiSys as you can turn off the appliances with your hand in case of an emergency.

14) The sockets on the extension board have been earthed to prevent the user getting electrocuted due to some electricity leakage.

15) WiSwiSys2.0 supports up-to 4 appliances.

16) The next feature is something you would like the most!

WiSwiSys2.0 supports voice command through Amazon Alexa or Google Assisstant!😃

Things are getting more easy now. You can now control your home appliances just through your voice!
Google Assisstant- Just say, "Ok google, turn on the fan", and the fan turns on immediately(Requires an Android phone with google assistant or google home).
Amazon Alexa- Just say ." Alexa, turn on the fan", and she turns on the fan for you (Requires amazon Echo or Echo dot).

A few defects:

When WiSwiSys2.0 gets connected to the server, all the sockets are switched on automatically.

The sockets on the extension mode are of Indian model. So you would have to use a converter plug to plug the plugs of different models.
